I keep getting letters to my house demaning payment of utility bills. What do I do?

Despite our best efforts at getting your utility supplier to post bills directly to us it sometimes happens that they will post the bill to your house. The administration of many utility suppliers is far from perfect. We therefore request that if you receive any bills addressed to CLECOM, Mr Clewett or similar then you drop them off at our office on Croydon Road or our shop in the Guild of Students so that we can prevent future annoyances. Our postal address can be found at the bottom of this page.

My wireless network card doesn’t work.

  • You may not have the correct hardware “drivers” installed.
  • The wireless device may be faulty.
  • You may have entered the WEP key (network password) incorrectly.

All my housemates cannot access the Internet. What can I do?

Check the Telewest modem (either a black or white box with green lights) to see if its on “standby” mode. If it is, simply press the standby button again to activate it. If that fails, please contact our IT support team.

I’m a new tenant and cannot access the wireless network in the house.

This may be because there is a security encryption on the network. It can either be a 10 digit password or other security setting on your network. If it’s a password, your housemates should already have the WEP key written down.

I have ADSL broadband Internet and cannot access my Internet.

Occasionally, routers and modems need re-starting. Try unplugging the modem and/or wireless router for 30 seconds and re-connect.

My wireless router keeps cutting me off the Internet and my downloads are slow.

There are several things that could be affecting your wireless signal;

  • Multiple mobile phone/3G signals
  • Other wireless networks in the neighbourhood
  • Heavy use of P2P(file sharing) software
  • Large domestic electrical appliances near the router

Make sure your machine is free from spyware and viruses. Install some programs from our downloads page and run them on your machine. Clear out any junk data from your machine by using CCLEANER.

My Internet signal is very weak because my bedroom is at the back of the house. What can I do?

It could be that something is blocking the wireless signal such as a large electrical appliance or some other external signal. You may want to try moving the wireless router to another location in the house, or place it higher on a table or shelf. If this fails to improve the signal, please contact IT support on 0121 471 4199.
